1st day of summer, the beginning of the summer solstice and the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Summer solstice is a result of the Earth's north-south axis being tilted 23.5 degrees relative tot he sun. The tilt causes different amounts of sunlight to reach different regions of the planet.
During this time the Northern Hemishpere receives more sunlight than on any other day of the year, but that doesn't mean the first day of summer is also the hottest day summer. The earth's oceans and atmosphere act like heat sinks, absorbing and rereadiating the sun's rays over time. So even thought the planet is absorbing lots of sunlight on the summer solstice, it takes several weeks to release it. As a result, the hottest days of summer usually occur in July or August.

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful days of the world. Unfortunately I lost my dad some years ago and I truly miss him. But to celebrate father's day I would like to share a photo of one of my favorite brides and her dad. Azure was truly a pleasure to work with.

Azure and her dad!!! Beautiful!
Today is the 3rd day of Kwanzaa
The Purpose of Kwanzaa
According to the official website, Kwanzaa, which is celebrated each year between December 26 and January 1, was established to reinforce basic principles in African culture. The principles include and emphasis on family and a respect for community culture. Recently the scope of Kwanzaa has expanded to include people of all backgrounds who feel these principles are important.
Kwanzaa invites participants to meditate on and interpret its values in ways that are relevant to our individual and collective goals. It is my belief that these principles should be applied to our lives throughout the year.
The Seven Principles
- Umoja - stands for Unity
- Kujichagulia - stands for Self-Determination
- Ujima - stands for Collective Work and Responsibility
- Ujamaa - stands for Cooperative Economics
- Nia - stands for Purpose
- Kuumba - stands for Creativity
- Imani - stands for Faith
